Hammie Ranch Update: The Roots Had to Go

Hi Friends,

I need to tell you what happened this week.

The land is finally cleared. Like… actually cleared. I stood out there and just looked at it for a while because it feels different now. Open. Ready. Quiet in a new way.

They cleaned out the driveway and the ditches so the water will flow properly when the rain comes. It’s one of those behind-the-scenes things that no one sees later, but it matters so much. Florida rain does not play around.

But the biggest thing?

Those palmetto root bulbs.

If you’ve never dealt with them, let me just say — they are stubborn. They sit deep in the ground and spread everywhere. And if you leave even part of them, they grow back and start pushing up where you don’t want them.

So we had them ripped out completely in the areas where the house will sit… where the fence will run… where the well and septic will go.

It was messy. Loud. Dirt flying everywhere.

But standing there watching those roots come out, I kept thinking:

You cannot build something strong if you leave stubborn roots underneath it.

And I don’t just mean land.

If we’re going to put a home there… if animals are going to graze there… if this ranch is going to last decades… the foundation has to be clean. No future root problems. No surprises later.

It felt like such a big step.

🌿 The Entrance Is Getting Real

Now that the clearing is done, we’re moving toward fencing.

And this part makes me emotional.

At the front of the property, we’re putting up a timber ranch entrance, tall wooden posts with a heavy beam across the top. Across that beam will hang a big metal sign that says:

The Hammie Ranch

*******NOT MY PHOTO, THIS PHOTO BELONGS TO LAZY A RANCH, JUST AN EXAMPLE OF WHAT WE WANT TO DO. ********

It’ll be the first thing people see when they pull up.

I can already picture it.

I still laugh because I only ever took care of horses before this. That was my world. Now I’m learning about drainage, root systems, fence lines, wells, septic placement… all of it. And I am very much still learning.

But every week, this place feels more real.

More intentional.

More like something we’re building carefully instead of rushing.

🌾 Get Ready

And okay… I need you to prepare yourself.

Because the next update?

We are about to share the last, or very close to last draft of the full property blueprint.

Where the house will sit.
Where the barn will go.
Fence lines.
Well placement.
Septic layout.
Animal areas.

Everything is mapped out.

This is the part where the dream stops floating around in my head and actually has lines on paper.

So get ready.

We’re closer than we’ve ever been.

And I’m really grateful you’re here watching it unfold with me.

With dirt on my boots and a full heart,
Sunshine 🌾🤍
