🩆 10 Adorable Facts About Call Ducks (And Why You'll Fall in Love with Them at The Hammie Ranch)

If you’ve never heard of Call Ducks, get ready to fall in love, farm-style. These tiny, chatty, and charming ducks are one of the most beloved animal companions here at The Hammie Ranch in Punta Gorda, Florida. Whether you're planning a visit for one of our family-friendly ranch experiences or you're just a fellow animal lover, this post is for you!

We’re not your average Ranch; we’re building something different: wholesome, faith-filled, farm life with hands-on experiences the whole family can enjoy. And trust us, our Call Ducks will steal the show every time.

Here are 10 fun (and adorable) facts about these pint-sized waterfowl stars:

1. They’re Pocket-Sized Ducks

Call Ducks are one of the smallest duck breeds in the world, typically weighing under 2 pounds. Their tiny size makes them perfect for little hands to gently pet during our Hammie Ranch Experiences.

2. They’re Super Social

Call Ducks love people and attention. They’ll often waddle right up to you, chattering away, looking for treats or a splash in their water tub. Visitors are always surprised at how interactive they are!

3. They’re Excellent Quackers

Named for their loud, distinctive call, these ducks were originally used by hunters to lure wild ducks into range. But now? They're just the ranch comedians, full of quacks and sass that make everyone laugh.

4. They Come in So Many Colors

From snowy whites to silver, chocolate, and blue bibbed, Call Ducks come in a rainbow of colors. At The Hammie Ranch, we have a growing little flock in a variety of adorable shades. They're basically the Easter eggs of the duck world.

5. They’re a Favorite for Farm Photography

Their small size, sweet expressions, and curious nature make Call Ducks ideal for photography. Many guests will take family photos with them during our Florida ranch tours, and they’ll even make a few appearances on social media (and hearts!).

6. They're Great for Kids

Call Ducks are gentle, easy to handle, and love being part of the action. They’re often the first animal children interact with when they visit The Hammie Ranch, making them the perfect first farm friend.

7. They Love Little Pools

Forget fancy ponds, give a Call Duck a kiddie pool and you've made their day. You’ll often catch them splashing, preening, and showing off for visitors. Our ranch experiences will include interactive animal time, and the ducks are always the entertainers.

8. They Live Well With Others

Call Ducks get along great with chickens, goats, and even barn cats. Here at The Hammie Ranch, they’ll be a part of our barnyard family, waddling between stalls and coops like they own the place (because
 they kind of do).

9. They're Surprisingly Smart

Call Ducks can learn routines, recognize their names, and even respond to their favorite ranch guests. Several will follow us around like puppies, proving they’ve got both fluff and brains.

10. They Steal Hearts, Quickly!

Once you meet a Call Duck, it’s over. You’ll want to scoop one up (gently!) and take it home. Many visitors leave The Hammie Ranch dreaming about their own mini duck flock.

🐐 Why We Chose Call Ducks to be a Part of Our Ranch Experiences

Here at The Hammie Ranch, we carefully choose animals that are gentle, social, and safe for families. We don’t offer traditional petting zoos; instead, we offer intentional, slow-paced encounters that give you time to really connect with the animals. And Call Ducks? They fit that mission perfectly.

We’re building something meaningful out here in Punta Gorda, Florida, where God’s presence meets barn dust and baby animals. Whether you’re coming to meet the goats, feed the chickens, or watch our Call Ducks splash around like tiny water ballerinas, we hope you leave with full hearts and muddy boots.
