Fill Dirt, Graded Ground, and a Divine Surprise from Wisconsin
God’s fingerprints are all over The Hammie Ranch
This week at The Hammie Ranch, we hit another major milestone in our homesteading journey—the fill dirt was delivered! And while it might not seem glamorous, this dirt was a total game-changer for our driveway construction, camper plans, and overall ranch progress.
But wait… the best part?
God showed up in the details.
The Day the Fill Dirt Rolled In
We’ve been waiting patiently (well… kind of) for this part of the process. After installing our culvert pipes, the next big step was bringing in fill dirt to build up the driveway and prepare for our camper setup.
As soon as that giant truck pulled in, dumping beautiful, clean dirt across our entrance, my heart leapt. Dirt isn’t glamorous, but it’s necessary, and it means we’re one step closer to living on the land.
A Grading Gift We Didn’t Expect
While the fill dirt alone was a huge win as we got it for $460 less than previously quoted, what happened next was the kind of moment that only God can orchestrate.
Trevor got to chatting with the guy who delivered it. Just a friendly back-and-forth about the land, our plans, and the dream we’re building from the ground up. Then, out of the blue, the guy says:
“Hey, I already graded it all out for you. I have one more load to grade out. No charge for grading.”
Wait, what?!
We were fully prepared to grab shovels and sweat it out ourselves (as usual), but this man not only brought the dirt… he stayed and used his equipment to grade it smooth and even like a pro.
For free.
And Then... the Wisconsin Bombshell 🧀
As if that wasn’t enough of a blessing, guess where he’s from?
WISCONSIN.
Y’all.
We had just canceled our trip to Wisconsin because God opened the door for this land. It was a bittersweet moment for us… and then THIS guy shows up, grades our land for free, and says he’s from the exact place we had planned to go.
There is no way that’s not God.
God Is in Every Detail, Even Dirt!
This is why I keep sharing our story, messy and all, because these moments remind me that God sees the big picture.
He knew we’d be tired.
He knew we’d be praying for help.
He knew we’d feel the sting of canceling our trip.
And He sent a Wisconsin angel in a dump truck to remind us that He’s in it all.
What’s Next for The Hammie Ranch?
✅ Driveway fill dirt is in and graded (bless up 🙌)
✅ Camper pad is almost ready
✅ Next step: save for stallion semen (yep… we’re saying that out loud now 🤣)
✅ And soon: clearing the land for chicken coops and garden beds!
Building a Ranch from Scratch Takes Faith, Dirt, and Unexpected Helpers
Whether it’s culvert pipes, scraped hands, fill dirt, or friends from Wisconsin—God is building this ranch right alongside us.
If you’re walking through a season of small beginnings, don’t miss the miracles buried in the dirt. Sometimes the biggest blessings show up in work boots, with diesel engines and a kind heart.
